Thoughts After The Election

1. Remember: God rules in the affairs of men’s governments (Daniel 4:17). There is no authority except of God and the civil authorities that be are appointed by God (Romans 13:1). I must gladly accept His will.

 2. Realize: God's providence is not always fully seen (Ecclesiastes 8:4-9). I cannot see the end from the beginning, only guess. I do not know how this all fits into history’s bigger picture. I may not see the greater spiritual objectives God has in store.

3. I am thankful for the privilege of having a voice by voting. This is not true everywhere. Democracy is not the only God ordained form of government and may not always be.

4. I am grateful for the past accomplishments of government. I do not want to forget to be thankful for that already received.

5. I need to pray for all in authority, whether I voted for them or not, or even voted at all, and pray that I can live my life as a Christian without government interference (I Timothy 2:1-2). And pray that the government continue to praise those who do good and punish evildoers (I Peter 2:14).

6. I need to remember to respect and obey all in authority (I Peter 2:13,17; Romans 13:1-5) and to avoid speaking evil of them (Titus 3:1-2; Acts 23:1-5). In so doing, I may silence foolish men by submitting to those in civil authority, though I am free of them (I Peter 2:15-16).

7. Support the government financially (Matthew 22:21). They are God's servants to render vengeance on evildoers (Romans 13:6-7).
